Although its coverage in the media is not as prominent as it used to be. However, the problem of people who are known in Japanese as “hikikomori” not being able to leave their homes remains. It gets worse when the parents who helped them grow up are no longer supportive.
J.A.C.F.A is an organization dedicated to finding ways to integrate people into society. Headquartered in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture. Your task is not easy; according to J.A.C.F.A. about 80% of the people they come into contact with are relatives of the latently infected, not the people themselves. Even in these cases, meetings are difficult to organize because some discussions take place on either side of the door or
It’s natural to think about our concerns; JACFA took a different approach and created an initiative called the Fukuoka Virtual Support Room, also known as “Room”. As you might guess from the name, it’s a support center that exists almost entirely within the Metaverse-like system SecondLife, allowing anyone to choose any avatar they want.
It’s a brand new business, and the band doesn’t know if people will accept it. Ultimately, it was only a matter of time before Hikikomori joined; however, J.A.C.F.A. was amazed that they could connect through a virtual alter ego.
The connection test with Hikikomori was very successful!
During the salon’s trial run on July 13, the salon held a “swap meeting” with 20 hikikomori employees and assistants. The usually shy people suddenly became friendly to the staff and introduced themselves through games like names and quizzes. The little guests in the room also shared their experiences, such as “I was able to relax in my avatar” and “I was able to communicate more than face-to-face”.
In fact, this is not a complete return to society. However, as a tool, rooms not only facilitate communication between support staff and hikikomori but also speed up the process. By opening up lines of communication, more can be done to get people out of the house.
Education and training can also take place through Metaverse. The Metaverse platform will be renamed J.A.C.F.A. Their goal is to help these people find jobs so they can support themselves. Based on the results of these activities, they hope to have a full plan ready by the end of the year.
