TOKYO, July 23 (Jiji Press) — Prime Minister Fumio Kishida plans to appoint Koichi Hagida as Minister of Economy, Trade, and Industry, while filling the newly created post of Ecological Transformation Minister, sources said by the Japanese government.
The appointment is expected to take place on Wednesday when the ecological transition task force will be set up ahead of the prime minister’s planned cabinet reshuffle in the first half of September, the sources said.
As Green Transition Minister, Hagita is expected to work to speed up the implementation of measures to speed up the country’s decarbonization.
Kishida also plans to appoint Economic Development Minister Daishiro Yamaki in August to increase support for start-ups, one of the key measures to achieve “new forms of capitalism”, the prime minister’s flagship policy, the sources said.
The government aims to spend a sum of 150 trillion yen in public and private spending over the subsequent10 years to promote decarbonization. Kishida said in a speech on Friday that his government plans to create an unprecedented framework to help drive huge long-term investments in decarbonizing the private sector.
